2012 Match Report

School v Rugby Meteors June 2012

On a cold and wet Speech Day two Meteors XIs turned out to play against the School XI and XXII.

On OBS Offord and Pell hit hard and helped set a total of 217 for 5 off 35 overs. This proved too much for the XXII with Connell taking 4 wickets. On NBS the Meteors batsmen led by Moxham (60) set a target of 176. The XI batted with good concentration to achieve this with Wilson (77*) to the fore.

Two weeks later the Meteors were pitted against Harrow Wanderers in the first round of The Cricketer Cup. Captain Jaimie Noble had assembled as strong an XI as we have fielded for a good while and the weather forecast, in a run of wet days, was optimistic.

Losing the toss the Meteors fielded first. The outfield was slow and the pitch relatively difficult as Harrow wickets fell regularly. Sinclair (3-27), Noble J (3-18), together with Ewer, were the pick of the bowlers. Four good catches were taken at keeper or slip and an enormous skier pouched by Jarvis. With Harrow bowled out for 144 the Meteors were quietly confident at the break.

However the Wanderers on the whole bowled more tightly and also took their catches. With the exception of Hardwick (28) no Meteor batsman really got set and we ended 11 runs short, all out 133.

It is good to see new blood in the team in the shape of Moxham, Clarke and Wedgwood; a number of this year’s School XI will be in the mix next year. Roll on 2013!
